SUBJECT:  Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Each year on the fourth Thursday in April employers across the country participate in Take Our Daughter to Work Day. However, at UCSD this annual event is "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day." Programs and activities planned are intended to promote a sense of place and voice in the world of work for girls and boys ages 9 through 15. The children of UCSD faculty, staff and students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in workshops, tours and other activities.

This year's event will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2003, with registration and breakfast from 8:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. at the Eleanor Roosevelt College, in front of the Women's Center - University Building 407. Programs and activities will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at various campus locations. A schedule of events and registration information are available at http://www.ucsd.edu/women. Inquiries regarding the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day should be directed to Jessica Chapin-Geipel, UCSD Women's Center, at (858) 822-0074 or at jlchain@ucsd.edu.

In recognition of this event, I am approving a one-hour administrative leave with pay on Thursday, April 24th so that employees may participate in this annual event with their children. Therefore, supervisors are encouraged to grant employees one hour of administrative leave with pay when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.
