SUBJECT:  Improving UCSD Career Development, Internal Transfer
                     and Promotion Opportunities

One of the issues identified in the SRSSC's January 2002 report was the need for more coordinated services for internal professional development and career advancement. With this in mind, I am pleased to announce the dual implementation of the Internal Recruitment Program and the UCSD career portal.

The Internal Recruitment Program is designed to expand opportunities for promotion and transfer for career vacancies in the following payroll titles:

* ___ Assistant III
* Assistant Analyst through Senior Administrative Analyst (includes Administrative Specialist and Administrative Coordinator)
* Student Affairs Officers I - IV

The benefits of the Internal Recruitment Program are twofold: Current UCSD employees applying for positions in the above referenced payroll titles will receive priority consideration during the recruitment period, and supervisors will gain early access to qualified applicants with knowledge of campus organizations, processes, and systems.

For more information on the Internal Recruitment Program, see:

The other SRSSC initiative being implemented today is "My Career at UCSD," a career portal to services, programs, and online tools related to transfer and promotion opportunities, compensation, career development, and training. The career portal features SkillScan Online, a self-directed interactive assessment tool to help you identify natural strengths and key transferable skills for use in career development. SkillScan, along with the many other resources in "My Career at UCSD," can help you assess skills and interests, explore the many career opportunities at UCSD, and prepare for and reach career goals.

I hope you find this coordinated effort of internal employee professional and career development initiatives helpful. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail the Human Resources Department at hr@ucsd.edu.
