SUBJECT:  John Muir College Provost

Pat Ledden, Provost, John Muir College will be on a leave of absence, effective September 1, 2003, returning to his position as Provost in the spring. I am delighted that Professor Susan Kirkpatrick, Department of Literature, an expert in Spanish literature, has agreed to serve as Acting Provost during Provost Ledden's absence through the end of winter quarter 2004. Professor Kirkpatrick has been with UCSD since 1971 and has served as Chair of the Department of Literature from 1988-1991 and as Associate Chancellor from 1996-2000. She also served as Chair of the Preuss School Board from 2001-2003. Please join me in thanking Professor Kirkpatrick for assuming this important role.
