SUBJECT:    Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars

Chancellor Marye Anne Fox will lead the ninth annual Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars on Friday, October 22, on a course through campus to raise scholarship support for UCSD students. Since the inaugural run in 1996, the Chancellor's Challenge has raised more than $1 million for more than 500 undergraduate scholarships. We invite all staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends to join us for this exciting event.

More about the Chancellor's Challenge

The Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk starts and ends on the North Campus Field, adjacent to RIMAC. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m., with the Run/Walk getting under way at 12:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided after the race.

UC President and former UCSD Chancellor Bob Dynes will be back on campus for the event. He and Chancellor Fox have joined forces and each will donate $25 to UCSD undergraduate scholarships for every person who crosses the finish line before President Dynes. That's not the only challenge! Michael Robertson of REEF and Lindows.com (formerly of MP3) and a 1990 UCSD alumnus from Warren College will pay $25 toward undergraduate scholarships for every person who finishes ahead of him.

Associated Students Challenge

Associated Students President Jenn Pae has issued a challenge on behalf of UCSD students: if she finishes before President Dynes, Chancellor Fox will donate funds towards the AS BBQ. If the President beats the AS President, Jenn will roll up her sleeves and will wash the Chancellor's car.

You're Not a Runner? No Problem

The Chancellor's Challenge is a "walk" as much as it is a "run." You do not need to be a runner to join in the fun. You don't even need to cross the finish line. The goal is to participate, have fun, and help support UCSD's outstanding students. Individuals with disabilities should contact Dave Koch at 858-822-5260 to discuss requests for special accommodations.
