SUBJECT:    $30 million gift to the School of Pharmacy and
Pharmaceutical Sciences

It is my pleasure to announce a gift of $30 million to our School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences from The Skaggs Institute for Research. In recognition of this gift, the school will be named the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

This generous gift - one of the largest in university history and the largest to date for UCSD Health Sciences - supports the school's mission to train students to meet the increasing need for future generations of pharmacists in health care, academia and industry.

The Skaggs Institute for Research is one of several foundations and institutes established by L.S. "Sam" Skaggs and his family. Mr. Skaggs is nationally recognized as a pioneer in the retail drug store and grocery business and as a generous philanthropist.

Please join me in thanking The Skaggs Institute for Research for their dedicated commitment to our university. Due to this exceptional contribution, the Skaggs name will forever be a legacy at UCSD.
