Dear Colleagues:
I encourage you to attend our final Assembly meeting for the 2003-04 academic year, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25, at 3:30 p.m., in Garren Auditorium, Room 1105 in the Basic Science Building. The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents may be found on the Senate's Web page at:

We will have the pleasure of hearing Professor Cecil Lytle present the annual report to the Assembly on the Preuss School at UCSD. It has been six years since the School began with 150 students in grades six through eight, and it will graduate its first class of seniors in late June. I am certain we all are eager to hear of the School's accomplishments and achievements.
The Assembly will also receive the annual report of the Committee on Academic Personnel, which appears on the Consent Calendar along with proposed amendments of the Bylaws of the Faculty of John Muir College. Additionally, we will consider proposed amendments of the Bylaws of the Faculty of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Finally, we will have the great pleasure of acting on the nominations for the Senate's 2003-04 Distinguished Faculty Research Lecturer.
