SUBJECT:    Staff Associations at UCSD

The University of California, San Diego is dedicated to fostering inclusiveness, respect, and a welcoming environment. We communicate this dedication quite clearly in our Principles of Community, through Staff Education and Development courses, in the New Employee Orientation program, and in many UCSD publications. But it is not enough to simply communicate this message. Integrating this dedication into the life of UCSD must be a dynamic process in which we all participate.

There are a number of staff associations at UCSD that assist in this effort. Through educational programs and regular monthly meetings, many of these staff associations help create a welcoming and nurturing environment for our diverse workforce, open channels of communication throughout the University, and promote networking and career development.

We strongly encourage supervisors to be flexible and permit employees to attend the meetings and programs of these associations as long as their job responsibilities do not conflict with their participation. Employees who wish to participate in any staff association function during scheduled work hours must obtain supervisory approval in advance.
