SUBJECT:    Proposed Revisions to Academic Personnel Policies

The University invites comments on proposed revisions to Academic Personnel Manual (APM) 340 on Continuing Educators, APM 662, Appendix B-4 on additional compensation and a draft salary scale.

The Continuing Educator title will replace the current Continuing Education Specialist title. These professional educators design and implement continuing education programs and classes for the public, primarily through University Extension. Revised APM - 662, Appendix B-4 applies to University Extension academic appointees who plan University Extension courses and who also wish to teach in University Extension programs.

The proposed Continuing Educator policy and the draft salary range will apply to current Continuing Education Specialists. For additional compensation, APM - 662, Appendix B-4 will apply to all academic appointees within University Extension, such as the current Continuing Education Specialists, who have financial or academic responsibility for designing, directing, or organizing University Extension programs.

The draft salary scale for each level of the Continuing Educator titles provides a wide range and is designed to enhance career opportunities. In addition, the Chancellor may authorize incentive plans to reward exceptionally meritorious performance.

The proposed revised policy is available on the Web at:

This is a formal review of the proposed revisions to the above policies. If you have comments or questions, please contact Tricia Takacs, Interim Director of Academic Personnel, at ttakacs@ucsd.edu no later than Friday, July 23, 2004.
