The University of California, San Diego is pleased to announce a one-time Bonus Leave Program for 2004-05. In launching the program, University of California President, Robert C. Dynes said, "In appreciation of the hard work and ongoing dedication of its valuable staff, the University has created a one-time program, the 2004-05 Bonus Leave Program, to provide two days of bonus leave (16 hours) to eligible staff employees on the campuses of the University." This program is an important new initiative given the current state budget situation and the challenges that are presented to identify meaningful ways to reward and recognize UCSD staff. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The 2004-05 Bonus Leave, a one-time program, is distinct from other paid leave programs such as holidays, vacation or paid administrative time off. The two days (16 hours) of bonus leave should be used on Dec. 28 and 29, 2004. If absences on those days present operational concerns, the respective vice chancellor will schedule alternative bonus leave days for affected areas limited to the period from Dec. 1, 2004, to Jan. 31, 2005. Part-time employees will receive two days of bonus leave in proportion to their appointment as of Dec. 1, 2004. Employees on START will receive bonus leave based on their pre-START appointment percentage. Employees on alternative full-time work schedules are eligible for no more than 16 hours of bonus leave. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for the Bonus Leave Program, staff must:
* be covered by Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) Employees on contract appointments are eligible for inclusion in this program if their contracts provide for leave accrual and holiday pay; all other employees on contract are ineligible. In addition, employees with per diem or casual-restricted appointments are not eligible. The application of this program to UCSD Healthcare will be covered in a separate e-mail to affected employees. UCSD academics are not covered by this program. Application of the program to represented employees is subject to collective bargaining.
