SUBJECT:    PAT LEDDEN MEMORIAL FACULTY LUNCHEON SERIES

Dear Colleagues,

Many of you are aware of the Faculty Luncheon series orchestrated over the years by the late Muir Provost Patrick Ledden. I am pleased to announce that through the efforts of a faculty committee and support provided by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and the Faculty Club, the series is being reinstituted and named for its initiator. As you will perhaps recall, the luncheon series is designed to provide informed presentations by UCSD faculty members on topics of general interest in a cordial environment. A complimentary lunch is served from 12:00 to 12:30 pm in the Faculty Club Lounge, followed by the talk and a discussion period. The program adjourns about 1:15 pm. Many faculty members who have attended in past years remark that these lunches provide one of the best opportunities available on campus to meet colleagues from other disciplines, as well as to hear discussions on topics of current interest. I would like to encourage in particular new members of the faculty to attend as a way to become part of the faculty community.

The first two lunches in the series will take place as follows: Thursday, February 3 - Professor Naomi Oreskes, Department of History Thursday, February 24 - Professor Yolande Snaith, Head of Theatre UCSD Department of Theatre and Dance

Please note that attendance will be limited to the first 70 people to respond. Even if you cannot attend either of these luncheons, please let us know if you are interested in receiving future notices.

This letter is the only notification you will receive for the lunch on February 3. If you would like to attend, please make your reservations as soon as possible by email to or by phone at extension 2-1475. Again, if you cannot attend on February 3, but would like to receive notices of subsequent lunches, please let her know that as well.

We hope to see you there for the first of many such seminars.

Best regards,

Susan Kirkpatrick
