OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

February 14, 2005

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (including UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:    2005 United Way/Combined Health Agency Drive

Please join me in supporting the 2005 UCSD United Way/CHAD Campaign.

This year's theme is "Sharing Hope, Providing Help." The theme is appropriate because each of us is challenged to care for the needs of the San Diego community. I encourage you to contribute to UCSD's United Way/CHAD Campaign as a noble way to manifest your caring.

United Way is also involved in the international relief efforts for the people of Asia, who were affected by the recent devastating tsunami. Therefore, supporting United Way offers us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in San Diego as well as the international community.

Gifts to United Way/CHAD help to support community programs which do the following:

* enhance senior independence
* develop diverse communities
* empower persons with disabilities
* improve health and wellness
* protect the environment
* strengthen families in crisis

The UCSD United Way/CHAD 2005 Campaign commences today, February 14, and will run through Thursday, March 17. You are invited to visit the UCSD United Way/CHAD website at:

I am proud of our campus community's prior campaign success and I applaud those of you who have volunteered your time, energy and financial resources. If this year's campaign is to succeed, it is critical that all of us become involved and act as our heart dictates.

Questions about this notice may be directed to Campaign Co-chairs, Rogers Davis () at (858)534-0286 or Dan Wyman () at (858)534-7831. On behalf of the United Way/CHAD agencies and the University, thank you for your continued support.
