ACADEMIC SENATE: SAN DIEGO DIVISION

May 18, 2005

MEMBERS OF THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY

SUBJECT:    May 24, 2005 Meeting

Dear Colleagues:

Our last meeting of this academic year is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, at 3:30 p.m., in Garren Auditorium, Room 1105 in the Basic Science Building. The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents may be found on the Senate's Web page at:

http://www-senate.ucsd.edu/assembly/agenda/current.htm

Professors Hugh Mehan and Cecil Lytle will address the Assembly next Tuesday, providing annual updates on the status of CREATE and the Preuss School. In addition, the Assembly will be asked to consider approving a proposal for a new, combined program of undergraduate and professional study leading to the Degrees of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacological Chemistry and Doctor of Pharmacy. The Committee on Educational Policy is also proposing an amendment to San Diego Division Regulation 600, governing requirements for double majors.

Equally important will be a report from the Senate Council regarding a proposal from Vice Chancellor Watson for student-athlete grants-in-aid. This proposal raises issues about which the Assembly has previously held strong opinions; a lively discussion should be expected and the Assembly will be asked to take action on this proposal.

For help in reaching the Web site or to obtain a paper copy of the Notice of Meeting, please contact the Academic Senate Office at 534-3640. If at all times you prefer to receive a paper copy of the Notice of Meeting, let us know, and we'll put you on our mailing list.

If you cannot attend next week's meeting, please be sure to notify your alternate to do so in your stead. Your absence matters.

I look forward to seeing you on the 24th.

Sincerely,

Donald F. Tuzin, Chair
Academic Senate, San Diego Division
