The applicable University of California (UC) personnel policy for staff members, including MSP members, 23/Performance Appraisal, states that "The performance of each employee shall be appraised annually in writing, or more frequently by the employee's immediate supervisor in accordance with local procedures..." Therefore, this Notice is intended to encourage and affirm the requirement for performance management and annual written appraisals.
In particular, the UCSD annual performance appraisal process provides a means of measuring and enhancing individual performance and fostering employee development. In support of the objectives, the UCSD Implementing Procedures, 23/Performance Appraisal, provides appraisal models that may be used and customized models have been approved to assess the performance of staff employees.

For next year's review cycle, please note that performance appraisals for supervisors and managers will incorporate the new Standards for Effective Supervision. These Standards are available on Blink at: http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/supervisorstandards
