SUBJECT:    START Program Extension - Formal Review

The University is proposing a one-year extension until June 30, 2006 of the Staff and Academic Reduction in Time Program (START) for current participants. START is a program originally scheduled to expire June 30, 2005. Its purpose is to achieve short-term salary savings during the University's budget crisis through employees' voluntary time reductions. Since its inception, the program, on a systemwide level has saved over $24.4 million in UC salaries, helped meet budget goals, minimized layoffs, and addressed employee work/life needs.

More detailed information about the START Program can be found at the following link:

If you would like to comment on the proposed extension, please e-mail your comments by Wednesday, June 8, to Jenni Leibman, Director of Employee Relations and Policy Development (employeerelations@ucsd.edu) or Tricia Takacs, Director of Academic Personnel (ttakacs@ucsd.edu).
