I am pleased to announce the composition of the Search Committee for the Director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Vice Chancellor - Marine Sciences, and Dean of the Graduate School of Marine Sciences. As you know, Charles Kennel decided earlier this year to step down from his SIO post to assist the University in developing our environmental sustainability efforts.

Professor W. Kendall Melville and Calit2 Director Larry Smarr have graciously agreed to co-chair the Committee. The membership includes:

W. KENDALL MELVILLE, Professor, SIO/MPL/PORD, Co-Chair

The Committee will conduct an international search for a candidate at the full professor level who must be a scholar of distinction with an international reputation. A record of effective academic administration and leadership skills beneficial to SIO's mission are required.

I am grateful to all members of the committee for their assistance in this most important search.
