ALL STAFF AND NON-SENATE ACADEMIC EMPLOYEES

SUBJECT:    Staff Advisor to The Regents - 2006-07 Application Period

At its January 19, 2005 meeting, the UC Board of Regents adopted a new two-year pilot program designed to improve direct communication between UC employees and the Board and to help facilitate staff input into the Board's deliberations and decisions. The UC Staff Advisor pilot program, instituted in 2005-2006, is intended to allow the Regents to benefit from hearing staff and non-Senate academic employee perspectives on relevant matters that come before Regents' committees and the Board.

Under the pilot program, two individual staff and/or non-Senate academic employees serve as non-voting advisors to two Regental committees: the Committee on Educational Policy and the Committee on Grounds and Buildings. Two Staff Advisors were selected to serve during the first year of the pilot program. One of the two incumbents has been asked to continue to serve for 2006-2007 to ensure continuity of experience. The incoming Staff Advisor will serve at least a one-year term beginning July 1, 2006. Should the pilot program be extended by the Regents, the incoming Staff Advisor would serve two years, ending June 30, 2008.

All eligible UC staff and non-Senate academic employees who are interested in serving as the 2006-2007 Staff Advisor to The Regents may apply during the period beginning Tuesday, January 17, 2006 and ending at 5:00 p.m. on February 15, 2006. The Staff Advisor will be selected from all eligible UC staff and non-Senate academic employees by President Dynes in consultation with the Chairman of the Board of Regents.

Further information about the Staff Advisor Pilot Program, the application form, a complete explanation of eligibility and the application and selection process, and information on the role and responsibilities of the Staff Advisor, can be found under "How to Apply" at:

When reviewing the eligibility criteria, please interpret the "exceeds expectations" performance level to mean the same as the UCSD performance rating of "above expectations" for staff employees or advancement in the academic personnel review process for non-Senate academic employees.

Questions regarding the program should be directed to Bill Neff, Special Assistant to Associate Vice President Judy Boyette at Bill.Neff@ucop.edu or (510) 987-9996.
