DIVISION OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES
January 24, 2006
KEY ADMINISTRATORS AND KEY SUPPORT STAFF
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Heath Fox as Assistant Dean of Arts and Humanities. In this capacity Heath will serve as divisional chief of staff and lead administrative officer, overseeing resource management and allocation and strategic planning. Heath is ideally qualified for his new work assignment by background and experience, having held leadership positions in arts administration after retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps.
Most recently, Heath has been the Director of Administration at the San Diego Museum of Art. His responsibilities there have included oversight of staff, financial supervision, facilities control, security and risk management, and general administration. A senior member of the Museum's leadership team, he has also served as advisor to its Executive Director and liaison to its Board of Trustees. Heath was Acting Executive Director of the Museum from October 2003 until September 2004. Previous to his tenure with the San Diego Museum of Art, Heath had been Associate Director for Administration at the Museum of Photographic Arts with responsibility for museum operations and for extensive capital expansion and renovation activities.
Heath received a BS in business finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, studied European art history at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London, and graduated from the Getty Leadership Institute's museum management program. He is now completing an MA in Museum Studies under the auspices of the University of Leicester (UK). In addition to his career engagements, Heath is currently the President of the Board of Directors of the Balboa Park House of Hospitality, a National Historic Landmark in San Diego. He lives in Carlsbad with his wife and son. Heath will take up his new responsibilities at UCSD on February 22, 2006. Please join me in welcoming Heath to the Division and to the campus!
