SUBJECT:    Search for the Dean of Graduate Studies

On November 22, 2005, SVC Chandler sent an electronic announcement to faculty inviting applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Graduate Studies. Given the impact of the holidays on our schedules, I want to reiterate SVC Chandler's call for applications and nominations of candidates for the new graduate dean.

The Search Committee for the Dean of Graduate Studies (membership listed below) will begin reviewing nominations and applications later this month. I am writing to remind you that we would like to receive nominations for the Dean of Graduate Studies by FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 2006. This recruitment is being conducted internally, and candidates must hold full-time, tenured faculty appointments in one of UCSD's academic departments. Copies of SVC Chandler's November campus announcement and the position description are posted on the Academic Affairs web site:

http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/searches/DGS-search.htm

Nominations will be confidential, and it is not necessary to seek prior consent of the potential candidate, as the Search Committee will be pleased to ascertain the nominee's willingness to be considered. We would also be pleased to receive any thoughts or suggestions concerning the search that you wish to put forward. You may send nominations or comments by electronic mail, in confidence, to:

Associate Vice Chancellor David R. Miller, Chair
Search Committee for the Dean of Graduate Studies
e-mail: dean-grad-sc@ucsd.edu

You are also welcome to contact me or any member of the Search Committee if you wish to discuss the search or nominate someone personally.

Thank you for your consideration in helping us with the recruitment for this important position.

David R. Miller, Chair
Search Committee for the Dean of
Graduate Studies
