SUBJECT:    Retirement reception for Vice Chancellor John Woods

Please join me on Thursday, December 14, at a retirement reception honoring Vice Chancellor John Woods. The reception will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fung Auditorium at the Powell-Focht Bioengineering Building.

John has served as the Vice Chancellor - Resource Management & Planning since 1993 and, most recently, also assisted the university by serving as Interim Vice Chancellor - External Relations. John’s contributions to UC San Diego over the years are countless.

John began his career at UC San Diego in 1982 as Associate Vice Chancellor - Resource Management and, for the last 24 years, John has been a significant member of the leadership team here. He’s provided creative, analytical, and strategic skill that made campus initiatives – such as Calit2, the Preuss School, and the UCSD Science Research Park – a reality. His contributions also include the development of the campus’ 2004 Long Range Development Plan, which ensures the orderly build-out of the campus to steady state. In addition, under John's tenure, the campus' capital inventory has grown from 4 million gross square feet to 11 million gross square feet, a portfolio of approximately $1.5 billion.

The retirement reception for John is an opportunity to offer him a heartfelt thank you for his service and dedication, and to wish him well in retirement. If you have any questions about the reception, you can call (858) 534-6386.
