SUBJECT:	Proposed Revisions to Policy and Procedure Manual
	Section 230-20, Appointment of Academic Personnel

I am pleased to submit for formal campus review proposed revisions to UCSD Policy and Procedure Manual (PPM) Section 230-20, the UCSD policy on the appointment of academic personnel.

A significant effort has been made to improve PPM 230-20 through updates that reflect changes and/or additions to the Academic Personnel Manual (APM); removal of outdated information; incorporation of a number of changes and/or clarifications suggested by faculty, department administrators, and Academic Senate committees, including the Committee on Academic Personnel and the Committee on Affirmative Action and Diversity; and substantial (but non-substantive) technical editing.

In addition, Section VII, Series Descriptions, has been updated to provide more complete and uniform information about each series utilized at UCSD.
