ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    China Trip, Summer 2006

VISIT CHINA this summer as a UCSD STUDENT AMBASSADOR OF PEACE with other students from across the UC system. Walk along the GREAT WALL of China! Visit BEIJING, the FORBIDDEN CITY, TIANMEN SQUARE and the SUMMER PALACE. You will attend a magnificent ceremony to celebrate good will between our two countries in a gesture of international educational communication. During the summers from 2001-2005, over 1000 UCSD participants have taken part in this event and experienced one of the most exciting, wonderful and educational times of their lives. UC students from Irvine, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Davis, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Santa Cruz and Riverside have all taken part. UCSD students have again been invited to participate in the "Silk Road to the Future," a special event sponsored by The Legends of China Foundation (LOC). This year, as previously, immediate family members (including parents and siblings) are invited to participate with their students.

You may take part in any one of the following trip offerings:

— TRIP A: Beijing only;

— TRIP B: Beijing + four additional South China cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Zhouzhuang;

— TRIP C: Beijing + four South China cities + Xi’an, where the archeological excavation of the terra cotta soldier army is taking place;

— TRIP D: Beijing + four South China cities + Xi'an + Hong Kong.

Included is round-trip airfare (from LAX or SFO), all domestic airfare in China, 4/5-star hotel accommodations, all meals, ground transportation, tour guides, historical site tickets, and full traveler health insurance.

The “Silk Road to the Future” event also involves each student producing a work of “silk art” with World Peace as its theme on a piece of beautiful white silk supplied to you by LOC. Every individual’s silk artwork, produced over all trip years from 2001 through 2008, will be stitched together into an incredibly long banner representing the Silk Road that will be presented to the entire world during the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 BEIJING OLYMPICS.

REGISTRATION MATERIAL, INSTRUCTIONS AND ALL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ARE AVAILABLE AT UCSD’S “SILK ROAD TO THE FUTURE” WEBSITE:

NOTE: A SPECIAL INFORMATIONAL SESSION WILL BE CONDUCTED at UCSD’s International Center on February 9, 1:00-2:30 p.m. You will meet and hear a talk by LOC’s President, Yu Lee, a Chinese filmmaker; see a great slide show from past Silk Road trips assembled by UC students; examine silk artworks from past trips; and hear from UCSD students who have taken part during previous years. PLEASE DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!

REMEMBER: spaces for this trip are limited and available strictly on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis. Submit your application ASAP.
