ALL FACULTY AND STAFF AT UCSD (excluding UCSD Medical Center)

SUBJECT:    UCSD Waitlist and TritonLink Enhancements

There are exciting new enhancements being made to the UCSD enrollment management system that will help us keep pace with the growing student population. Core to the system is a dynamic and interactive waitlist system that treats all students equally and fairly and that reduces workload for faculty and staff.

This is good news for the campus!

- Students will have one consistent waitlist process across campus. TritonLink will allow them to see and choose classes and waitlists from a single Web Registration (Webreg) page. They will be able to make informed decisions based on current enrollment and waitlist data, including monitoring their rank on the waitlist.

- Academic departments will have greater control over their course enrollments and will save time by no longer needing to maintain internal waitlist systems. Each department will control their enrollment limits and will have sole authority to preauthorize students for their classes.

- The new process will allow for the elimination of an enrollment moratorium and, in most instances, the use of add cards.

Enrollment periods based on class level already provide priority for advanced students. Waitlisted students who meet prerequisites will be added into courses on a first-come, first-served basis as seats become available. E-mail messages will notify students of the outcome of add attempts.

Phased introduction of the new waitlist is scheduled for Fall 2006 enrollment. In May 2006, students will begin to enroll and waitlist. In summer, departments will adjust enrollment limits and monitor pending waitlist activity. In September, processes will start to automatically move students from waitlists into available seats.

More information on the new system will be provided on Blink and on TritonLink in May, at training sessions throughout Summer 2006, and at college-department meetings.

Key to success of the system is training and communication across the campus. Questions may be directed to Gabe Olszewski, University Registrar, golszewski@ucsd.edu (858) 534-5448 or to Lynne Keith-McMullin, Co-Chair of Automated Waitlist Workgroup, lmcmullin@ucsd.edu, (858) 534-0780.
