Lana Brenes - Director, Staff Education and Development

Lana Brenes has announced her retirement from her position as Director of Staff Education and Development (SE&D), effective June 30, 2006. Joining the Human Resources Department in 1984, and assuming the role of Director in 1987, Lana's contributions to the field have singled her out as a highly respected leader. Her presence at UCSD will be sorely missed.

Lana's leadership and accomplishments have touched the campus in many ways. Some highlights of ways she has contributed to UCSD's success include her work with the Business Leadership Forum; the Middle Management Advance; the Sustaining Excellence Series; the People Expo; the Diversity Education training initiative; the Values for Learning and Professional Development; the Administrative Professionals Development Program; the five sets of Standards for Performance Appraisal; and the New Supervisor Orientation. During her tenure, SE&D offerings have grown to include over 200 courses taught by more than 175 content experts, an enrollment management system via web-based Enrollment Central, and development and implementation of several web-based training tutorials.

I know the campus joins me in expressing our sincere gratitude to Lana for her many years of service and her outstanding contributions to our community. We sincerely wish her a wonderful retirement.

Grace Balch will assume the role of Interim Director, effective on July 1st, pending the completion of a recruitment to fill this position.
