ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (Including UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:    California Public Records Act Request by the San Diego
Union Tribune

Dear UCSD Colleagues:

Recently, the University received a request from the San Diego Union Tribune, filed under the California Public Records Act, for comprehensive data on cash compensation earned by all UCSD faculty, academics and staff employed during the calendar years 2003, 2004, and 2005. While recognizing the sensitivity of the requested information, we have determined that this compensation information is releasable under the Public Records Act which holds that records pertaining to the State's business are presumptively subject to public scrutiny and that "every person has a right to inspect any public record.

If you should have comments or questions regarding this public records request and the University's response, please email your remarks to cprapayrollrequest@ucsd.edu.

In addition, we request that supervisors and managers post hard copies of this notice as needed, especially in those circumstances where employees may not have access to e-mail.
