ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (including UCSD Medical Center)
ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Series of Town Hall Meetings for Faculty, Staff and Students

Later this month and in June, I will hold three Town Hall meetings to provide the UC San Diego community with an opportunity to hear an update on campus progress and to discuss the issues we face on our campus. In the one-hour sessions, I will provide a report on UC San Diego initiatives and my leadership team and I will answer questions.

We have tried to choose a central location for the meetings and times that would be convenient for faculty, staff, and students. Although each Town Hall is targeted for a specific constituency, any member of the campus may attend any or all meetings; administrative leave has been approved for the Staff Town Hall. The three Town Hall meetings will be:

May 22, 2006 Students 3:00 - 4:00 PM Faculty Club
May 30, 2006 Faculty 3:30 - 4:30 PM Faculty Club
June 22, 2006 Staff 12:00 - 1:00 PM Eucalyptus Point

I recognize that a number of our staff members are not located on the general campus. Therefore, we will provide shuttle bus service to and from the June 22 Town Hall for staff members at Hillcrest, Thornton and SIO. In addition, I am approving one hour of administrative leave with pay, and I encourage supervisors to allow employees to attend the Town Hall meeting as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties. We hope that the shuttle service and one hour of administrative leave will allow as many of you to participate as possible.

The format for the Town Halls will include a brief overview of campus initiatives before a question-and-answer session. The Principles of Community will guide these campus forums as we endeavor to update you on issues and answer your questions. I encourage you to join us for this important campus dialogue, and I look forward to seeing you at the Town Halls.

For questions or information about shuttle services, please contact the Office of Special Events and Protocol at 858-534-6386.
