I am pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Ratcliff as Assistant Vice Chancellor-Student Life, effective July 1, 2006. Gary has served as Acting AVC-Student Life for the past 11 months.
Gary has had 22 years of experience working in student life programs at several campuses. Since 2000, he has served as Director of the University Centers at UCSD, where he was instrumental in collaborating with student leaders to move forward the current renovations and expansions of the Student Center and the Price Center. Prior to coming to UCSD, he directed student activities, leadership and multicultural programs, and concerts and performing arts events, and oversaw major expansion and renovations of student life facilities at the University of Montana and Mesa State College.
As the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Life, Gary will be engaged in the collaborative development of programs, services, and facilities to enrich the quality of student life. He will work with undergraduate and graduate student leaders on initiatives to strengthen the sense of community on campus. He will also collaborate with faculty and administrators to provide students with educationally meaningful experiences outside of the classroom.
Gary received his Ph.D. in Higher Education from Penn State University and his M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Association of College Unions International and the Executive Board of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education.
