ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD
ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD
With the retirement of Richard Attiyeh from his position as Dean of Graduate Studies and Vice Chancellor for Research at UCSD, the campus is moving forward with the planned division of the Office of Graduate Studies and Research (OGSR) into two separate organizations and with the restructuring of research administration.
Effective July 1, 2006, the new Office of Graduate Studies (OGS), under the guidance of the Dean of Graduate Studies, will have responsibility for graduate admissions, graduate academic and student affairs, graduate program reviews, and awarding of degrees.
Research administration at UCSD, under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor for Research, will be known as Research Affairs. In addition to those units currently reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research, Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services (TechTIPS) and the Office of Contract and Grant Administration (OCGA) will move from the Vice Chancellor for Resource Management and Planning to Academic Affairs under the VC-Research. These are major changes for these organizations and for the campus and are a direct result of the growth and stature of our many research and graduate programs here at UCSD.
Proposed appointments of the new Dean of Graduate Studies and the Vice Chancellor for Research are under consideration at UC Office of the President and will be announced upon their approval by the Regents.
During the month of July, Associate Dean David Sworder will serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Associate Dean Steven Cassedy will serve as Interim Dean of Graduate Studies. If you have any questions regarding changes to research administration, please contact Marianne Generales, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research (x44636, email@example.com). Graduate Studies inquiries may be directed to the appropriate Graduate Studies unit head: Tim Johnston for Graduate Student Affairs (x43871, firstname.lastname@example.org), Mary Allen for Graduate Academic Affairs (x43552, email@example.com), and Kathryn Nagy for Graduate Financial Support (x43724, firstname.lastname@example.org).
