Appointment of Acting Dean, Division of Social Sciences

I am pleased to announce that Professor Jeffrey Elman, Associate Dean of the Division of Social Sciences and founding member of the Department of Cognitive Science, has been appointed to serve as Acting Dean for 2006-07 during a well-deserved period of sabbatical for Divisional Dean Paul Drake.

In addition to his current leadership role in the Division, Professor Elman was instrumental in efforts to establish the Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind, and serves as co-director of the Institute. An outstanding scholar and campus citizen, Elman is an executive committee member for the Center for Research in Language and a fellow of the Cognitive Science Society.

David Lake, Professor and former Chair of the Department of Political Science, has graciously agreed to serve as Acting Associate Dean during this period.
