SUBJECT:    Appointment of Acting Dean, Graduate School of International

Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS)

I am pleased to announce that Professor Takeo Hoshi has been appointed to serve as Acting Dean of the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) during a well-deserved period of sabbatical leave for Dean Peter Cowhey. His appointment will be effective August 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006.

Professor Hoshi has played an integral role in the administration of IR/PS, having served as Associate Dean from 2003 to 2005. He is an outstanding scholar and authority on the Japanese economy, and holds the Pacific Economic Cooperation Chair in International Economic Relations. He is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Nakahara Prize for the best young Japanese economist and the Nikkei Prize for Excellent Books in Economic Science. Professor Hoshi is a research associate of both the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Tokyo Center for Economic Research.

Please join me in thanking Professor Hoshi for his leadership and commitment to IR/PS and the campus.
