SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE- Hopkins Drive

Project Description/Location

The expansion of the San Diego Supercomputer began construction in June 2006 and is scheduled for completion in April 2008. This project is comprised of administrative, research, and classroom space, as well as an expansion of the main computer room.

Immediate Street Impacts

At various times during this construction period, heavy construction traffic may occur on Hopkins Drive resulting in traffic delays and as needed, closure of the road (separate Construction Alerts will be issued for these). Bike lanes will remain closed during this time and pedestrians should take special note of sidewalk closures and signs directing them to cross to the east side of Hopkins Drive in the area of the project.

Update - From September 2006 through January 2007, Hopkins Drive will be impacted by heavy excavation vehicles and equipment. At times, trucks will line the west side of Hopkins Drive adjacent to the RIMAC playing fields. Flagmen will be present to direct traffic. You are encouraged to avoid this road if at all possible during this time.

If you have any questions, please contact the Project Manager, Chris Cocallas, 858-822-5141 or Project Specialist, Laurel Foster, 858-822-3704. We greatly appreciate your patience during these construction activities.
