ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (including UCSD Medical Center)

SUBJECT:    Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk

In the spirit of broad campus involvement in the Chancellor's Challenge 5-K Run/Walk for Scholars, I am approving two hours of administrative leave with pay on Friday, October 26, the day of the event. Supervisors may allow two hours of release time for staff to participate as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

This year we celebrate the 12th year of the Chancellor's Challenge. Since its inception, the Chancellor's Challenge has had a direct impact on the lives of students by raising more than $1.7 million to help highly motivated undergraduate students attend UC San Diego.

Chancellor's Challenge participants may run or walk the 5K course. Day of race check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. The Chancellor’s Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars will start at 12:15 p.m. from the North Campus Field, adjacent to RIMAC, and continue on a course that weaves through campus. Participants may run or walk the 5K course. Please contact Dave Koch at (858) 822-5260 to request alternative accessibility arrangements or accommodations.

Registered participants may pick up their bib number and T-shirt on Thursday, October 25, between 3:00 and 5:30 p.m. at RIMAC. To register and pay online, access payroll deducation forms to support scholarships, and for more information about this event, please visit the Chancellor's Challenge website at www.ucsd.edu/5k.

This year, for every $50,000 raised, I will add $5,000 and will match new and increased gifts with discretionary funds up to $40,000. In addition, for the first 500 students registered, I will personally match their $10 registration fee to double their contribution to scholarships.

Please join us for this fun activity to benefit our students.
