ALL ACADEMICS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Diversity Opportunities for Faculty

I am providing links for two letters that offer you opportunities to get involved in diversity initiatives at UCSD. The first is the McNair Mentoring Program, which has a long history of preparing undergraduates for graduate school and hopefully, the professoriate. The deadline for this Program is Thursday, November 15. The contact is Tom K. Brown at tkbrown@ucsd.edu.

While the McNair Program is a long-term commitment, the other program is a newly-initiated one-day event titled “Dare to Dream College: The African American Experience at UCSD.” As you will read in the letter, “Dare to Dream” is a day-long event that will give African American elementary, middle school, and high school students and their parents the opportunity to learn more about UCSD and what it has to offer them as a leading university for the African American community. This event will take place Saturday, November 17 on campus. The contact is Michael Dabney at mdabney@ucsd.edu.

Please take a few moments to review the two letters and take advantage of these opportunities to demonstrate the fact that UC San Diego values and celebrates excellence through diversity. As always, faculty participation is a highlight for the students and their parents.
