ALL ACADEMIC AND INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
A national search for a new Dean of the Division of Social Sciences is now commencing, and I am pleased to invite applications and nominations for this position.
The dean is the academic and administrative leader of the Division of Social Sciences; the division includes the departments of Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Communication, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. As a key member of the University's leadership, the dean reports directly to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and represents the division at the campus, local, state, national, and international levels. The dean plays a leadership role in the division's cross-disciplinary collaborations with other divisions and schools throughout the campus.
Successful candidates should have prior experience in academic administration (preferably including a term as department chair) and must have a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service appropriate for appointment as a tenured senior professor in the division. The dean will be appointed to serve at 100% time for a five-year term, renewable following appropriate review.
The membership of the search committee, which will be chaired by Professor Mark Appelbaum, Department of Psychology, is given below. The Russell Reynolds Associates search firm has been engaged to assist with this important recruitment, and all candidate materials will be sent directly to the firm.
Candidates are encouraged to submit their materials by February 15, 2008. The search committee will continue reviewing candidate files until the position is filled. Nominations and applications (curriculum vitae, an optional statement of interest, e-mail address, and names of references) should be submitted electronically (Microsoft Word files preferred), in confidence, to:
Search Committee Chair Mark Appelbaum
The Division of Social Sciences has a strong commitment to achieving diversity, and the search committee seeks an individual who shares that commitment.
