SUBJECT:    The UCSD Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools, and UCSD Associated Students Host Admit Day Saturday, April 14, 2007, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Admitted freshmen and their families will "Discover UCSD!" on Admit Day, Saturday, April 14, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. This event is an opportunity to showcase the UCSD campus, its academic departments, services and student organizations during the students' important college decision-making period. Admit Day typically draws up to 15,000 visitors to UCSD for the day to attend presentations on a variety of university-related topics, visit the undergraduate colleges, talk with students and faculty, and tour the campus.

The day will begin with a series of Welcome Sessions led by Mae Brown, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services; Randell Hernandez, Deputy Director of Admissions and Relations with Schools; and Shirley Balbin-Stacher, Associate Director, Admissions and Relations with Schools. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, Joseph Watson, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, and Dr. Barbara Sawrey, Vice Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will deliver the University Welcome. Visitors will also be greeted by the newly elected President of the UCSD Associated Students and other officers. The six undergraduate colleges will then host guests in college overview sessions designed to introduce students and their parents to the college and its academic and extracurricular opportunities. Each will also host activities and festivities to give visitors a glimpse of college life, and offer newly admitted students a chance to chat with current students.

Campus tours and residence hall tours will be held throughout the day, along with tours of RIMAC and various academic departments. Prospective students can meet representatives from academic departments, student support services, and student organizations at an Information Fair along Library Walk. Ongoing information sessions in Center Hall will cover housing and dining services, money matters, academic majors, athletics and campus life. Faculty members from a variety of departments will discuss academic expectations, the many ways that students and faculty can interact, and opportunities for student involvement in faculty research.

Admit Day offers an opportunity for admitted freshmen and their families to meet with UCSD faculty, staff, students and college administrators. It also provides the campus community with the chance to welcome newly admitted students to campus. For more information about Admit Day, please contact Shirley Balbin-Stacher at 534-4831.
