ALL ACADEMICS AT UCSD
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
After six years of distinguished service, John Valva has decided to leave his position as Director of Alumni Relations effective August 24, 2007.
During his tenure at UCSD, John has overseen dramatic enhancements in the way the University engages and serves our alumni. Under his leadership, the Alumni office launched UCSD’s first-ever alumni magazine, the award-winning @UCSD, expanded alumni’s support of undergraduate scholarships, extended UCSD’s outreach to alumni to cities across the nation, and significantly enhanced alumni involvement with students. Most importantly, John’s work has raised the overall perception and priority of alumni engagement throughout the campus.
John is taking a new position as Chief Operating Officer at YouthNoise, a San Francisco-based non-profit organization that utilizes on-line social networking tools and user-controlled content to connect young people (ages 16-24) across the globe to participate in debate of a number of social issues. This opportunity provides John with new professional challenges and allows him and his son Max to return to their extended family and friends in the Bay Area.
We are all sad to see John go, but we respect his desire to move closer to his family. An Interim Director for Alumni Relations will be named shortly.
Please join me in thanking John for his devoted service to UCSD and congratulating him on a job well done.
