SUBJECT:    Assistant Vice Chancellor – Intellectual Property

I am pleased to announce that following an extensive national search, Dr. Jane Moores has accepted the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor - Intellectual Property (AVCIP), effective October 1, 2007. Dr. Moores has served in the Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services (TechTIPS) department since 1999, most recently as Interim Director.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor – Research, the Assistant Vice Chancellor – Intellectual Property oversees the responsible stewardship of UCSD intellectual property in support of the university mission of transferring technology for the public benefit. Under Dr. Moores’s leadership, the campus looks forward to building its capacity for innovation by enhancing TechTIPS’s services, creating robust partnerships, and promoting intellectual property as a core competency through education programs.

Dr. Moores received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from University College London in England, and she served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in UC San Diego’s departments of Chemistry and Medicine. Dr. Moores worked in private industry as a Senior Scientist at Stratagene, a La Jolla-based biotechnology firm, until 1999, when she returned to UCSD. Prior to her appointment as Interim Director, Dr. Moores was Assistant Director for Life Science Licensing.

Please join me in congratulating AVCIP Moores on her appointment.
