ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Open Enrollment

Dear Colleague,

Beginning Thursday, October 30 through Tuesday, November 25, you will have the opportunity to review your benefits packages and make changes in your health coverage.

We want to encourage you to select a UC San Diego Medical Group physician as your primary care provider, if you haven’t already discovered the power of academic medicine. To fulfill our commitment to deliver superb service and care, we have added several new primary care physicians to our practices and are accepting new patients at all of our locations, including La Jolla, Scripps Ranch and Hillcrest. Some of these offices have evening hours and urgent care clinics.

Family Medicine is welcoming new patients. And, the new Internal Medicine Clinic in La Jolla has hired five new internists and appointments with the new physicians are currently available on the same or next day. Internal medicine physicians in Hillcrest are also accepting new patients.

Why choose a UCSD doctor? Because UC San Diego employees deserve the best. By selecting the region’s only academic medical center as your provider, you can expect access to top quality care delivered by leading physicians:

· The UC San Diego Medical Center is the only San Diego system ranked among the nation’s top programs in eight specialties by U.S. News and World Report, and the only system to consistently rank in multiple specialties for over a decade.

· Almost 70 UC San Diego physicians were named “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence” by their peers in the October issue of San Diego Magazine.

When you choose a UC San Diego primary care physician for your routine care, our specialists are there when you need them. Just a few examples:

· The Moores Cancer Center is the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, bringing more options to patients diagnosed with malignancy.

· UC San Diego surgeons are pioneering minimally invasive techniques that allow patients to recover more quickly, with fewer scars.

You can select a UC San Diego physician from any of the health plans offered by the University of California except Kaiser. To view a list of all primary care physicians you can select please visit http://health.ucsd.edu/UCSD_MD/open-enrollment.htm or call Physician Referral at 619-543-8273 or1-800-926-UCSD.

We urge you to become part of the UC San Diego health system, and experience first- hand our commitment to Clinical Excellence…Through Service, Innovation and Education.

We wish you the best of health!
