We are pleased to announce the appointment of Faculty Equity Advisors by the Deans in all general campus divisions and schools, and by the Vice Chancellors for Health Sciences and Marine Sciences.

Faculty Equity Advisors are respected senior faculty members who provide advice and information about practices that advance faculty diversity and excellence at UC San Diego. Our Faculty Equity Advisors are:

Arts & Humanities: Jorge Mariscal, Professor of Literature

Biological Sciences: Shelley Halpain, Professor of Biology

Jacobs School of Engineering: Paul Yu, Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering

International Relations and Pacific Studies: Barbara Walter, Associate Professor of Political Science

Rady School of Management: Uri Gneezy, Professor of Economics and Strategy

Physical Sciences: José Onuchic, Professor of Physics

Social Sciences: Carol Padden, Associate Dean and Professor of Communication

Health Sciences: Vivian Reznik, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Pediatrics and Family and Preventive Medicine

Scripps Institution of Oceanography: Russ Chapman, Executive Director of the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation

More information about the role of the Faculty Equity Advisor and the individuals appointed can be found at the new Faculty Equity web site: http://facultyequity.ucsd.edu/.

These positions, as well as the newly created Associate Vice Chancellor, Faculty Equity position currently held by Professor Jeanne Ferrante, were recommended by the UC San Diego Workgroup on the Report of the UC President’s Task Force on Faculty Diversity.

We appreciate the Deans’ and Vice Chancellors’ strong support in their appointments, and the Equity Advisors willingness to step forward to take on this important task. As Chancellor and SVCAA, we are strongly committed to increasing the number of women and historically underrepresented minority faculty. We ask that you help support the Faculty Equity Advisors in their new roles.
