SUBJECT:	Appointment of Assistant Vice Chancellor for
	Academic Personnel

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Kristina (Kristi) Petruzzelli as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel. Ms. Petruzzelli has more than 15 years of experience at UCSD, and has served as Interim in the position since December. In this capacity she has demonstrated outstanding leadership and poise in her management of UCSD's academic personnel program.

As Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel, Ms. Petruzzelli will serve as my senior advisor on issues related to UCSD's academic personnel program and will oversee the management and operations of the AP program, which includes the Academic Review and Academic Compensation units, the Office of Academic Diversity and Equal Opportunity, the Partner Opportunities Program, the Southern California Higher Education Recruitment Consortium, Academic Employee Relations, and the Data and Information Systems unit. Ms. Petruzzelli will also manage the faculty administrator program and will work in cooperation with the Academic Senate on my behalf to develop strategies to manage academic personnel issues and develop programs, policies and procedures to respond to the needs of the campus.

Ms. Petruzzelli received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from UCSD and her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego. She joined the UCSD staff ranks in 1993 in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery in the School of Medicine, where she served as Director of Human Resources and Academic Personnel. She was recruited to Academic Affairs in 1999 to the new position of Director of Academic Employee Relations and then as Director of Academic Policy Development and Analysis. In these roles, she has served as a senior advisor to UCSD's academic leadership on a wide variety of employment related matters including the development and revision of UCSD's academic employment policies, the management of the academic employee discipline process, and the development of training and educational programs for academic leadership and staff on academic employment policies and best practices. She has also been responsible for and will continue supervising the implementation of AP On-Line, UCSD's new online academic personnel system.
