ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD
It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Janice Klippel as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective April 1, 2008. In this newly established position, Ms. Klippel will serve as a key advisor on a wide range of Academic Affairs and campus-wide issues and will be responsible for developing and leading the implementation of new programs and initiatives to meet the changing needs of Academic Affairs. She will serve as a liaison with campus leaders, UC Office of the President, other UC Campuses, and external constituents on my behalf and will provide support for my efforts in Development, Community Outreach and External Relations.
Ms. Klippel has nearly thirty years of experience in Academic Affairs at UCSD. For the past fifteen she has served as Assistant Dean in the Division of Social Sciences. In this role she served as the key advisor to the Dean on all aspects of Divisional issues, and provided leadership, guidance, and advice to Social Sciences Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Business Officers on a wide variety of issues. Ms. Klippel has also been responsible for managing the general administration, finance, human resources, academic personnel, facilities and computing operations of the central offices of the Division of Social Sciences, the development and coordination of divisional funding and allocation models, and for collaborating with the Divisional Development Officer to identify development and fundraising strategies. Her previous UCSD experience includes twelve years in the Department of Chemistry and two years with the Academic Personnel Office.
Ms. Klippel's extensive background in Academic Affairs makes her exceptionally well-suited to serve as the first Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Please join me in congratulating Assistant Vice Chancellor Klippel on her appointment.
