SUBJECT:    Transportation and Parking Services 2008/09 Operational Changes

As announced earlier this month, monthly parking permit fees will not increase for faculty, staff or students for the 2008/2009 academic year. However, the Transportation Policy Committee (TPC) has recently recommended the following changes effective July 1, 2008 to help offset increases in operational costs.

Parking Enforcement: All citation penalty amounts under $60 will increase by $5. Parking Compliance Officers will also increase enforcement of time-controlled parking zones, including loading zones, loading docks, and the two-hour limit associated with Official Business (OB) and Service Yard (SY) stickers. "A" permits with an OB sticker will be limited to four hours in time-controlled zones.

Daily Parking Rate Increases: Daily parking permits will increase from $6 to $7 per day. Daily parking rates charged to department indexes will increase from $5 to $6 per day.

Vehicle Rental Rate Increases: Full-size bus rental will increase from $65 to $80 per hour; 15-passenger van rental will increase from $55 to $65 per hour; and the driver only rate will increase from $13 to $16 per hour. The fee for late cancellation of shuttle bus/van reservations will increase from $26 to $35.

In addition, the TPC recommended a reallocation of existing parking spaces in the Hopkins Parking Structure after an evaluation revealed the need to swap the locations of "S" and "B" spaces. However, the number of spaces within each category will remain the same - 808 student, and 589 staff, faculty and visitor spaces.
