SUBJECT:    Appointment of Dean of Student Affairs, Thurgood Marshall College

It is my pleasure to announce that Mentha Hynes-Wilson has been appointed as the next Dean of Student Affairs of Thurgood Marshall College.

Mentha Hynes-Wilson just completed a year as the director of student life for Whitman College, Princeton University's newest residential college. Functioning as the chief student services officer for the college, she serves an essential role in the strategic and assessment plans of programs and policies which extend learning beyond the classroom and maximize student opportunities for personal development. Mentha previously served as the associate dean of multicultural affairs and student affairs at Smith College. Her profound commitment to educational equity led her to design and implement highly-successful initiatives to make Smith a more diverse and welcoming community for people of all backgrounds.

Active in a number of educational and civic endeavors, Mentha holds professional memberships in associations including the American Association of University Women, American College Personnel Association, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. She earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, Sacramento and a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her outstanding administrative experience and passionate commitment to undergraduate education make Mentha exceptionally well-suited to provide leadership as Dean of Student Affairs of Marshall College. I am delighted that she has accepted this important and challenging position and please join me in offering her your best wishes and support. Mentha Hynes-Wilson's appointment will become effective June 22, 2008.

I want to thank Marshall College's Victoria Kerba Miller for serving as a superlative Interim Dean of Student Affairs during the Spring quarter; Victoria Kerba Miller will resume her position as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the conclusion of spring.
