SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE - UCSDMC Cardiovascular Center

Project Description/Location:

The new Cardiovascular Center Expansion includes the construction of a 128,000 square foot, 4-story addition at the north side of the existing Thornton Hospital. The associated site work includes raising a portion of Medical Center Drive, utility installations, hardscape/landscape, and some parking modifications.

Immediate Street Impacts:

Beginning July 16, 2008 and continuing until early September, 2008, vehicular traffic around the site and, specifically, Medical Center Drive North will be impacted at times to accommodate construction activities and utility installations. There will be occasions when the westbound side of Medical Center Drive North will be temporarily re-routed, using the eastbound lanes for two way traffic. During these times, flagmen will be present to direct traffic. At all times during the re-routing, the flagmen will give priority to ambulances and/or emergency vehicles. Pedestrian sidewalks adjacent to the project site will also be impacted and re-routed to existing walkways away from the construction area. Additional alerts will be issued throughout the construction period to update the campus as needed.
