SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT - Construction of The Sanford Consortium
for Regenerative Medicine Research Facility (SCRM)

Project Description/Location:

On January 21, 2009, the construction fence will be installed on the staging area and site for the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) research facility. On or about February 9, 2009, site preparation, including tree removal, will commence. This work will be followed by construction of site improvements and building construction. The work will continue until December 2010.

The SCRM facility is being built by Lankford and Associates and Hensel Phelps Construction Co. on land leased from The Regents of the University of California. SCRM will own the facility. The SCRM is a non-profit organization comprising the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, the Scripps Research Institute, and the University of California, San Diego. The facility will consist of research laboratories, offices, support space, café, and conference meeting rooms. UCSD, as a SCRM member, will occupy research space in the shared facility.

Immediate Street Impacts for Demolition and Construction Work:

From February 9, 2009 to December 2010, construction of The Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine research facility will occur. The site is located west of North Torrey Pines Road, north of Torrey Pines Scenic Drive, and south and west of the entry to Torrey Pines Center South (TPCS) and Northpoint Drive. The main entry/exit for the construction site and staging area will be off Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. A secondary entry/exit will be located near the entry driveway to TPCS. Intermittent impact to vehicular traffic on Torrey Pines Scenic Drive, North Torrey Pines Road and the entry drive to TPCS should be anticipated. On these occasions, traffic will be controlled by flagmen or traffic control. Six (6) UC Vehicle parking spaces at the TPCS entry drive will be permanently removed. No impact to vehicular traffic on the main campus is anticipated. The work will proceed in phases during construction.
