SUBJECT:    UC Commission on the Future Working Groups Forum

Representatives from the five working groups of the UC Commission on the Future will conduct a listening tour at UC San Diego from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Price Center East Ballroom, and I invite you to attend.

The UC Regents and Office of the President established the UC Commission on the Future to chart a new course to maintain the University’s excellence, access and affordability, and service to the state, within the context of the University's mission and severely reduced budget. The Commission’s five working groups will focus on: the size and shape of UC, education and curriculum, access and affordability, funding strategies, and research strategies. The Commission work groups are conducting listening tours on each of the 10 UC campuses.

At the meeting, representatives of the Commission’s work groups will describe the scope of their work group and receive input from the campus community of faculty, staff, students and alumni. The meeting will include a public comment period slated for 11:35 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. If you wish to speak during the public comment period, you must sign up in advance that day between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. in front of the Price Center East Ballroom. Speakers are expected to have one minute for their comments, although the time limit might be reduced if there is a high speaker turnout. Groups of three or more individuals may elect one person to speak on their behalf and may be allotted more than one minute. Speakers, and those who are unable to attend the forum, are encouraged to submit their written remarks to the Commission, either at the speaker sign-up table or online at
http://ucfuture.universityofcalifornia.edu/

In order to attend the meeting, I am approving one hour of administrative leave with pay, and I ask supervisors to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
