New CEO Appointed to UC San Diego Medical Center

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas E. Jackiewicz as the new CEO of the UC San Diego Medical Center, effective Nov. 23, 2009. In his new capacity, Tom will oversee the business operations and senior management team of the UC San Diego Medical Center, comprising the Hillcrest Hospital, Thornton Hospital, Moores UCSD Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Center and the Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center, scheduled for completion in 2011. The University of California Regents approved the appointment today.

Tom is a trusted and outstanding leader who has established strong relationships with Health Sciences faculty and staff, and he has a keen understanding and appreciation of the unique role the Medical Center plays within Health Sciences. He possesses the outstanding leadership abilities to continue the strong momentum and growth of the Medical Center.

Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia, and his Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University. He has extensive administrative and financial management experience in Health Sciences administration and physician practice operations, including his most recent position as associate vice chancellor and chief financial officer for Health Sciences at UC San Diego. He has also served as chief operating officer of Columbia University Medical Center, senior associate chair for finance and administration at the Stanford University School of Medicine, director of finance and administration for Oregon Health Sciences University and director of business and financial operations at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
