ALL ACADEMIC SENATE MEMBERS
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF

SUBJECT:    Faculty Director of UC San Diego Program Abroad - Opening

It is my pleasure to invite applications from tenured UC San Diego faculty who are interested in serving as the Faculty Director of our Programs Abroad Office. The position starts July 1, 2009, for a three-year appointment with annual renewal. A full position description can be found at: http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/r/pao.htm.

Faculty Directors play a central role in our international education program, which is being strengthened and expanded and includes Education Abroad Programs, Opportunities Abroad Programs, and UC San Diego Faculty-led Global Seminars. Past directors have found it highly rewarding to assist students with what has proven to be one of the most important educational experiences of their undergraduate years. Faculty with strong interests and experience in international education are encouraged to review the position description and submit a letter of interest and current CV to Barbara Sawrey, Associate Vice Chancellor -- Undergraduate Education, at avcue@ucsd.edu. The due date for applications is MONDAY, APRIL 13, 2008.

I also wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated service of Professor David Mares, Professor of Political Science, who will step down from the Faculty Director position June 30, 2009, after serving in this capacity since July 1, 2000. International education programs have grown and flourished under David’s leadership, and he has been particularly active in promoting the academic integration of study abroad with students’ major departments. Please join me in thanking Professor Mares for his service to international education and the campus.
