CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

June 18, 2009

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Budget Town Hall – An Additional Opportunity to
Attend on Friday

Thank you to everyone who attended today’s Town Halls in the Price Center and at Scripps Institution of Oceanography to voice your views about the University of California Office of the President Budget Reduction Options. An overflow crowd attended the session in the Price Center Ballroom and many staff members were unable to hear the presentation and the comments from colleagues.

On Friday, June 19, in Ballroom A & B from 10 to 11 a.m., Senior Vice Chancellor Paul Drake and I will hold another Town Hall geared toward faculty. We also invite staff members who were unable to attend the Thursday Town Halls to attend so you may hear the update on the state budget and its effect on UC San Diego and the discussion of the new budget reduction proposals from the UC Office of the President. This is an opportunity for you to communicate directly, share concerns, discuss ideas and ask questions about the budget.

Staff from the UCSD Health Sciences and Medical Center are welcome to attend the Town Hall on campus. However, I will hold a separate Town Hall meeting on Friday, June 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Goldberg Auditorium, Room 2110, of the Moores Cancer Center. All Medical Center and Health Sciences staff have received a separate email with details of the Town Hall.

In order to allow employees the opportunity to attend, I am authorizing one (1) hour of administrative leave with pay for those staff members who were unable to attend the Thursday Town Halls. Supervisors are asked to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties and patient care.

The UC Office of the President Budget Reduction Options may be found on our budget line website at http://budgetline.ucsd.edu

I look forward to our discussion. If you have any questions about the meeting, please contact Special Events and Protocol at 858.534.6386.
