OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR RESEARCH

August 5, 2009

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Resources for Research Personnel on Compliance Associated
with Export Control Regulations

To raise the level of awareness of our research community regarding export control regulations, the Office of Research Affairs (ORA) held two seminars in May for researchers, http://research.ucsd.edu/documents/training/exportcontroltraining.pdf . Topics discussed included shipping/transporting university equipment out of the United States, deemed exports, and penalties for export control violations. The Office of Contract and Grant Administration (OCGA) has posted a web page, http://ocga.ucsd.edu/Research/Export_Control/Overview.htm on Export Control; and the Shipping Department has provided information on shipping licenses at http://blink.ucsd.edu/Blink/External/Topics/Policy/0,1162,4495,00.html. To further assist researchers, ORA and OCGA have developed a brief summary of export control issues at http://research.ucsd.edu/documents/ExportControlJuly2009.pdf , which contains embedded links to additional information.

Please feel free to contact Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Initiatives Paul Yu (pyu@ucsd.edu; x4-3539) and Carlos Molina (cmolina@ucsd.edu; x 4-0247) at OCGA if you have questions.
