SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Muir College Apartments

Project Description/Location:

Preparation for construction of the Muir College Apartments will begin on September 8, 2009. The approximately 91,000 square foot project consists of two 9-story buildings. They will be located on what is now the open lawn area south of Stewart Commons 225 and just west of Humanities and Social Sciences 250. The site work will include utility extensions along Scholars Lane, as well as landscaping and associated site work.

Immediate Street, pedestrian walkway, and Recreation Facility Impacts for demolition and construction work:

Commencing on September 8, 2009 and continuing until July 2011, vehicular traffic on adjacent streets around the site, and parking lot P201 will be impacted at times to accommodate construction activities and utility installations. There will be occasions when Scholars Lane will be restricted to one lane of traffic, and ingress and egress for parking lot P201 controlled. During these times flagmen will be directing traffic.

South of Scholars Lane, the existing sand exercise area, sand volleyball courts, and two tennis courts will be used for construction staging and will not be available for use until July 2011. Pedestrian circulation towards campus through Stewart Commons from Tenaya 215, Tioga 210, and Tuolomne 230 Apartments will be re-directed away from Stewart Commons northward towards Muir Lane until July 2010.

Detour signs for vehicles and pedestrian traffic will also be posted.
